  • Introduction

Since its establishment on December 30, 1978, the Archilife Research Foundation has offered scholarships to support students in master course to complete their theses and to collect and arrange knowledge systematically, setting a basis for our declaration : "This organization is dedicated to experience, research, design, execution and advancement relevant to Archilife, and to providing solutions for the human existential space." After a nine-year start-up and consolidation period, Archilife officially commissioned a "Specifications of Next Generation Settlements" on July 1, 1987. The first of the foundation's 10-year studies, this project sought to identify specifications of next generation settlements for Chinese people, with the intended purposes of setting a phased prediction system that was based on the trends of development calibrated by variations and finally, to establish a "Forecast Guided Implementation Plan " system. Over subsequent years the scope of the study has expanded to include physical environment, public policy, structural construction, history and culture, and biological environments. Related research sub-groups have also been formed as needed to gradually bring to completion the study on "Specifications of Next Generation Settlements".

In 1996, Archilife embarked on a study of "Symbiotic Ecological Environments", building on the research achievements made during its first decade. This study explores the traits of ecological environments and seeks ways to achieve balanced improvement. In order to achieve these goals, the foundation formed separate research groups specializing in health and hygiene, agriculture and fishery, space planning and construction, biological environment, history and culture, physical environment, and public policy. These groups and their respective research sub-groups integrated the findings of their studies and, with the completion of the Symbiosphere 1 Center, implemented the study results in the quest to ensure the vitality of the human race. In July 2004, “Research of Symbiosis” sponsored by Archilife Research Foundation will have Archilife members as its main force to support them through the funding project to follow the self-oriented ambition within the scope of the symbiosis for building up research competence and experience to obtain the indispensable hierarchical level with the unique research results for Taiwan to situate in the violent international competition.

At the same time, Archilife has worked to collect and arrange knowledge through the development of knowledge bank, index books, and knowledge keepers in various fields. These resources have served as powerful tools in filling in research gaps and refining research findings. Moreover, in 1991, the foundation launched a three-year knowledge workshop, which culminated in the establishment of the "Archilife Research Communion". The foundation currently holds regular foundation communions and bookish assemblies to strengthen the knowledge for its members in a heterogeneous and changing future.
